UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies

UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies
A leading center in the UK for the study of Eastern Europe and Russia

The School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) conducts research in the history, economics, politics, sociology, anthropology, culture, literature and languages of countries in Central, Eastern and South-East Europe and Russia. As one of the world’s leading specialist institutions, nested within the University College London (UCL), it has more than 60 academic staff, 200 graduate students and about 500 students enrolled in BA degrees. Its website provides a good overview of its programs, research publications and other material, with a particularly rich library catalog, part of UCL Library Services. A great quantity of working papers can be freely downloaded as pdf files, while abstracts and other documents are displayed on-screen; some occasional papers and other publications are also for sale and can be ordered online. Webpages are generally up-to-date and provide many useful links pointing to selected academic libraries, and to other webresources such as a directory of links organized by countries of that area. An advanced search option is also provided, covering the entire UCL web structure. Retrieved records can be downloaded in their original formats. Thanks to its simple and cohesive design, the SSEES website is easy to navigate and pays good attention to the general usability.
